or: So your tasks do not suddenly take place in Tokyo
Time is a fascinating concept.
Especially when software suddenly believes that tomorrow is actually yesterday, or that your meeting apparently happens at 3 a.m.
That is why vanilla9 has a section for Time & Time Zone.
Do not worry. This is not about time travel. It is simply about making sure everything happens at the correct time.
Time Zone
Here you set the time zone you live in.
In the screenshot for example: Europe/Berlin
This determines how times inside the app are interpreted. For example:
– when a date begins
– when deadlines expire
– how times are displayed
So if you are sitting in Berlin but your app believes you are in New York, your To-Do list may suddenly develop very creative ideas about what “today” means.
Changing the Time Zone
If you move, travel, or your laptop suddenly decides to think internationally, you can simply search for a different time zone here.
For example:
– Berlin
– Tokyo
– New York
You enter the location, vanilla9 handles the rest.
Reference Times
At the bottom you will see two useful references.
Server (UTC)
This is the time the server runs on. Think of it as the neutral time base of the system.
Browser (Live)
This is the current time of your device or browser.
If both look reasonably aligned, everything is fine.
If they look completely different, you immediately know why a deadline might suddenly appear to be “in the past”.
In short
Here you define where in the world your time exists.
This ensures that:
– deadlines are correct
– time information is displayed properly
– and your tasks do not suddenly live in a different time zone than you do
Because even though vanilla9 can do quite a lot, time travel is not one of its features.
At least not yet.
